Thea and I have been together for about nine years before I popped the question on a weekend getaway at the Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bagac, Bataan on May 19, 2018.
As a backstory, I planned this proposal for a few months and honestly, it was probably the longest few months of my life! I was excited but nervous at the same time. It took me a while to figure out what a perfect proposal for Thea should be so I thought, "Why not do it on a getaway?" Since both of us love to travel and Thea loves history, I decided to pick a place where we can both unwind from the hustle and bustle of the city and at the same time, learn something new about the history of the Philippines. This is why I picked Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. It is a collection of restored Spanish-Filipino houses that reflect Filipino craftsmanship intricately curated into a world-class historical haven.
Many of you are wondering why I was wearing a Chino and Thea was wearing a Filipiniana in the photo. This is because whenever Thea goes to a new place, she always wants to try the local attire. I have thought about incorporating this idea for my proposal so I made some research about Las Casas and found out that there is a photography studio in the property (Fotografia de la Escolta). I was able to contact them online and told them about my plans.
Long story short, we checked-in to the property at noon time, dropped off the bags in our house and walked around to check out the area. It was a long drive to get to this place from Manila so we decided to go back to our house and take a rest for a few minutes. It was this day that I planned to pop the question so I made some excuses to Thea so that I could go out of the house and go to the photography studio. Good thing she let me go out! When I got back to the house, I told Thea that we were going somewhere. While we were waiting for the jeepney, I told her the we were going to have a photoshoot. She was really happy! When we arrived at the studio, Thea was surprised that we were also going to change clothes. The staffs were so amazing. Thea had no clue what was going on aside from the fact that we were going to have a casual photoshoot. It was very hard for me to pose for the pictures because the pants that they had me wear is a bit tight and I had a hard time hiding the box of the ring in my pocket! LOL! Good thing, Thea did not notice that I was hiding something in my pocket.
During our "photoshoot", we made our way to this beautiful spot of the property. The photographer told us what we had to do until he asked me to kneel down because he said that it would look sweet in the picture. Little did Thea know that it was part of the plan. I have to admit, I was very nervous when he asked me to kneel down because it was that same moment that I have to do the actual proposal! Honestly, everything that I have prepared in advance on what to say, I was not able to say, but nonetheless, everything that I said came from the bottom of my heart and she said, "Yes!".
As a celebration for this next step in our journey, we spent the night eating good food, drinking good wine and listening to live music. The moment was perfect!
